There is a plethora of excursion options in the area for distances varying from 20 to 70 km. Comfortable day excursions are possible to Dharamshala (60 km), Mcleodganj, residence of the Dalai Lama (68 km), Palampur (95 km) with a vista of green tea estates and the artists' complex of Andretta.

Haripur, founded in 1464 AD is considered the cradle of the famous Kangra School of Paintings. The narrow gauge train station at Guler still employs equipment from the early 20th Century and to date, oil lamps light the signal at dusk. The Fort at Haripur, ornamental tank and baolis (water springs) are also well worth the visit.

The Fort, until conquered by Emperor Jehangir in 1622, was always - with short exceptions - in the hands of the Hindu founders.

Brijeshwari (40 km), apparently plundered by Mahmud Ghazni of inestimable treasures in 1009, Jwalamukhi (20 km) a famous Shakti Temple, Chintpurni, where wishes are fulfilled (20 km).Dharamshala Mahanta (20km), has an old temple with Kangra murals on its walls.

For exorcising the evil spirit, the shrine of Baba Bharwag Singh.The Chapel of St. John in the Wilderness (with the grave of Lord Elgin, ex-Viceroy of India), on the way to McLeodgunj, is a charming chapel with fine stained glass windows.Dada Siba - Chinor (15 km) has an impressive, old Temple with beautiful Kangra murals on the inner walls.

The Revenue Office building was constructed in 1868.

Rock cut Temples of the style of Ellora.

Surrounded by lush green tea estates, it is on the way to Baijnath Temple and Bir/Billing where International hang gliding competitions are held.

Dada Siba, Chinor reached by a scenic road. "Dada Siba" has an old Temple with beautiful Kangra murals on the inner walls and impressive ruins. Chinor has water mills to grind corn.

"River Beas" at Chamba- Patan near Garli flows through beautiful countryside. Famous for Mahaseer fishing

Garli lovely old houses. The road leads to Chamba-Pattan on the banks of river Beas where boat rides are possible

Chintpurni - A Shakti Temple famous for granting of wishes. A little beyond is Dharamshala Mahanta, a sleepy hamlet which has an old temple with Kangra murals on wall.
