Walks, riding, trekking, golfing, fishing or skating.

Visiting Shimla town:
The Ridge and the Mall: The town comes down from the Ridge. The Mall, which is a pedestrian zone, is lined with shops, food stalls and colonial houses.

Christ Church
Constructed in 1857, this yellow structure with a Victorian-Gothic spire has some of the finest stained glass windows in India. The 1910 mock-Tudor library next to it has a good collection of historical books

Scandal Corner
Apparently the daughter of a senior British officer eloped with a Patiala prince from this point. This general meeting point is now dominated by a statue of freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai. It is close to Kali Bari where the deity of Shimla, Shyamla Devi, is enshrined.

Other places of interest are the Town Hall, General Post Office, the old Gaiety Theatre and the rebuilt 1877 Cecil Hotel. There are various interesting bazaars as well in town.

The State Museum
Housed in a colonial mansion, it has an impressive collection of traditional and contemporary art with a gallery of fine Pahari miniatures, a style developed under the auspices of the Kangra rulers.

The Viceregal Lodge, now known as the Rashtrapati Niwas, atop the Observatory Hill, was an Elizabethan mansion built in 1888 for Lord Dufferin. It now houses the Institute of Advanced Studies. The lodge also has a botanical garden and a café. A rear stone terrace affords a view of some major Himalayan peaks.
