This
beautiful and impeccably maintained bright red
250-year-old Nanak Shahi haveli of Rai Bahadur Rattan
Chand's lineage nestles on almost an acre on the
prestigious Mall Road in Amritsar. It is the first and
only holistic spa resort in the northern plains of
India. This haveli, which was run in the 19th and early
20th centuries as a guest house for visiting officials
from abroad, was a accustomed to being frequented by
royalty and eminent personalities. It is a haven of old
world charm for visitors to Amritsar, the Sikh holy city
of the Golden Temple. It is of course attractive by
itself too as a luxury heritage spa. |

Amritsar,
that owes its existence to the Golden Temple, is
mainly a religious and trading town with few
industries. Woollen items like blankets, shawls
and sweaters are the main articles of manufacture.
It
lies just 28 km from Wagah, at the border of India
and Pakistan, which not too long ago was opened to
traffic from either side.
