Dhuandhar
Falls
23 km from Jabalpur and just 1 km from Marble Rocks are the
Dhuandhar falls (smoke cascade) where the Narmada river
plunges through a narrow chasm, the Hathi-ka-paon ( elephant
foot) rock and the Monkey's Leap ledge.
Madan Mahal
Fort
This fort (enroute to Marble Rocks) was built in 1116 by the
Gond ruler, Raja Madan Shah. Constructed atop a rocky hill,
the fort dominates the skyline and provides a panoramic view
of the town and countryside around it.
Chausath
Jogini Mandir or Madanpur temple
This 10th century temple, located near the Falls, is circular
in shape and has broken images of the 64 yoginis (attendants)
of Goddess Kali. The temple is considered associated to the
palace of the Gond queen Durgawati.
Sangram
Sagar and Bajnamath
These medieval constructions were built by the famous Gond
King, Sangram Shah, between 1480-1540.
Rani
Durgavati Memorial and Museum
The museum houses a fine collection of sculptures,
inscriptions and prehistoric relics.
Tilwara Ghat
From where Mahatma Gandhi's ashes were immersed in the Narmada,
and venue of the open session of the Tripuri Congress in 1939.
The 12th
century Mala Devi Mandir, Pisan Hari Jain Temples and Roopnath
are some of the other sites in and around Jabalpur which merit
