Anandpur Sahib, where the WelcomHeritage Kikar Lodge is to be found, was founded by Guru Tegh Bahadur in 1665. It is here that Guru Gobind Singh baptised his first five "Pyaras" from different regions and castes, establishing the order of the Khalsa (the pure ones).

Aside from the gurudwara that dominates this town, where pilgrims flock, there are also numerous 17th century fortresses.
