Overview_Balsamand_Garden_Retreat_Jodhpur

home

Jodhpur, the erstwhile capital of the kingdom of Marwar, Rajasthan's largest princely state, a city awash in hues of blue, dominated by the large, imposing and wonderfully preserved Meherangarh Fort that towers over the alternately sleepy and bustling city with its winding roads and teeming markets, is a popular destination for good reason.

A mere 5 kilometres north of the city limits of Jodhpur, on the Mandore Road, is the Balsamand Garden Retreat, a series of charming rooms laid in a row with individual sit-outs overlooking an expanse of manicured lawns and exquisitely tended gardens.

At the far end of the same property is the Balsamand Lake, overlooking which is the Balasamand Lake Palace, the erstwhile summer retreat of the Jodhpur Maharajahs. What is now the Garden Retreat served as accommodation for the royal retinue.

This old royal summer residence has now been fitted with all modern amenities which however does not take away from the old world charm of the property.

Accommodation

There are 26 rooms in a row, each with individual sit-outs, overlooking the lush lawns and gardens. The rooms are charming and well-appointed affording complete privacy and yet just a step away from the many activities on offer on this sprawling estate.

Area Infomation_Balsamand_Garden_Retreat_Jodhpur
Jodhpur, the second largest city in the state of Rajasthan after Jaipur, lies on the brink of the Thar desert, and its climate certainly follows the desert pattern of dry hot summers with soaring temperatures and at the other extreme biting cold winter nights. However, the evening temperatures in summer drop considerably and make nights much more tolerable and the winter sun makes for crisp, bright days. A fair amount of rainfall in the months of July and August ensures that the catchment areas in and around the city fill up and that the city is fairly green.

At the heart of the Marwar region, Jodhpur is also nodal to many places of interest in the region.
